I was contacted by my client to design the UX and UI of his app idea. This is an application that allows users to schedule and request mechanical services for their vehicles, including roadside assistance and vehicle parts services.
There are services for roadside assistance such as AAA and others that take a long time to deliver services to their clients, especially when they need assistance in remote locations.
This application aims to close the gap between users and mechanics by allowing independent mechanics to sign up and work through the platform, providing speedy assistance to users who are close by, and allowing users to request a quick and effective service as well as scheduling other types of mechanical services if needed.
- I audited competitors or similar apps such as Uber, Lyft, wrench.com, yourmechanic.com, and others.
- Some of the main findings included consistent iconography, prominent CTAs, hamburger menu placement, types of services, and more.
My client needed assistance defining some of the ideas for his app. I conducted interviews with some potential users and these were the main themes that came up:
This is a representation of a potential end-user based on my interview findings.
During this phase, we took our research and created a clear vision of the problems that need to be solved as well as different ways to make our end product functional and user-friendly.
One way to keep us focused on our end user is by creating a fictional user persona that feels as close to a real potential user as possible.
- I sketched most of my ideas on a whiteboard to have a clear view of what I would be designing later on
- Sign in / Sign up user flow.
- Add a vehicle user flow.
- Request roadside assistance user flow.
- Based on the User Journey above, I decided to design this app with different shades of blue. Blue is a color that provokes “friendly” and calming feelings.
- If users are aggravated when requesting the service, this is a way to influence their emotions and psychologically make them feel more at ease.
Deliverables included wireframe and mockup png. and PDF files. The next steps will include revisions, and the second stage of design to add more features and continue developing the product’s MVP.
